MOTS-C (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA Type-C) is a recently discovered 16-amino acid peptide encoded by a short open reading frame within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene. First characterized in 2015, it represents a groundbreaking class of mitochondrial-derived peptides (MDPs) that function as retrograde signaling molecules from mitochondria to the nucleus. Published research has demonstrated its role in AMPK pathway activation, folate-methionine cycle regulation, and metabolic homeostasis. MOTS-C has also been shown to translocate to the nucleus under metabolic stress, where it regulates nuclear gene expression through interactions with antioxidant response elements (ARE). Our MOTS-C is synthesized via automated Fmoc-SPPS and validated by RP-HPLC and high-resolution mass spectrometry.
